A Word From Our Pastor
Rev. Aundry N. Evans, Sr.
Nehemiah 8:10 says, Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
As the newly assigned pastor (servant leader) of Greater Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church, I thank God for his divine guidance and protection. I would also like to thank the officers, members and friends of Greater Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church as well as the community at large for such a loving welcome and smooth transition. There is such an amazing peace that engages the life of God’s children when they truly understand that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” It is with God’s joy that I join with Greater Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church as we “go therefore and make disciples.”
During the great commission Jesus told his disciples, Matthew 28:18-20 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
The standard by which we are measured is not based on what others do but on our love for others. As followers of Jesus Christ, under His divine authority, we (the pastor, officers and members of Greater Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church) realize that it is imperative that we allow the light of love to shine in and on our lives in such a way that others are able see the works of love while realizing that all of the glory belongs to God. We have been called to do a work and that work is to go and make disciples, baptizing and teaching all that Jesus has commanded us.
